Software Engineer II – Android (Guest Engagement)

About the role

Toast is looking for a Software Engineer II to join the Guest Engagement team, building Android applications that run on Toast POS hardware in thousands of restaurants. You will help create next‑generation engagement experiences that attract new guests and turn them into regulars.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain high‑performing, flexible Android solutions for Toast POS.
• Ship features end‑to‑end, from design through rollout, monitor performance and iterate based on real‑world usage.
• Implement modern Android UX best practices.
• Collaborate closely with product, design, QA and engineering stakeholders in Agile ceremonies.
• Partner with engineers across the company to raise the overall Android experience.

Required profile

• Proficient in Kotlin and/or Java with experience shipping production Android apps.
• Strong grasp of modern Android tooling and frameworks.
• Enthusiastic about AI‑assisted development and LLM‑based agents such as Claude Code.
• Comfortable integrating with backend services (REST/GraphQL) and working across the stack when needed.
• Adaptable to ambiguity, agile delivery and incremental shipping.
• Passionate about delivering a great user experience.
• Solid software development fundamentals, including code quality, unit testing and clean code.
