Staff Backend Engineer, PHP / Golang

About the role

We are seeking a Staff Backend Engineer with strong expertise in PHP and Golang to lead the evolution of our mission‑critical SaaS platform. The role is remote‑first, collaborative, and focused on building scalable, reliable backend services that power high‑volume transactional workflows and complex API integrations.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive the architectural direction of backend systems built with PHP and Golang.
• Design, implement, and maintain high‑throughput integrations with third‑party platforms and external APIs.
• Collaborate with Product Managers and engineering teams to translate business challenges into robust technical solutions.
• Improve system reliability, scalability, and maintainability through best engineering practices.
• Lead backend modernization initiatives, including service‑oriented and event‑driven architectures using Domain Driven Design.
• Review technical designs, identify technical debt, and recommend optimization strategies.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and technical coaching.
• Ensure high standards for testing, observability, security, and delivery reliability.

Required profile

• 6+ years of SaaS software development experience, including at least 2 years in a senior or technical leadership role.
• Proven ability to work extensively with PHP and Golang.
• Strong experience designing RESTful APIs and distributed backend systems.
• Solid understanding of relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.
• Experience with event‑driven architectures and Domain Driven Design methodologies.
• Hands‑on experience with unit and integration testing.
• Background working in cloud environments, preferably AWS.
