Staff Nurse – Critical Care (SNCC2026)

About the role

The Health Service Executive (HSE) is seeking a qualified Staff Nurse to join the Critical Care Unit at Galway University Hospitals. This permanent position is open to both HSE and non‑HSE applicants and offers the opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary team delivering high‑quality intensive care.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to critically ill patients, including monitoring, assessment, and intervention.
• Administer medications, manage ventilators and other life‑support equipment.
• Collaborate with physicians, physiotherapists, and allied health professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure compliance with HSE policies and standards.
• Participate in emergency response and rapid‑response teams as required.

Required profile

• Registered General Nurse (RGN) with a current NMBI registration.
• Experience in an intensive care or high‑dependency setting is desirable.
• Eligibility to work in Ireland.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency in critical care monitoring equipment.
• Ability to interpret arterial blood gases and other clinical data.
• Competence in administering intravenous therapies and managing complex medication regimens.
