Staff Nurse – Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

About the role

The Health Service Executive is seeking a qualified Staff Nurse to join the Intensive Care Unit at Mayo University Hospital. This permanent, full‑time position offers the opportunity to work within a high‑acuity environment, delivering critical care to patients across the West and North West health region.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to critically ill patients in the ICU.
• Monitor and assess patient conditions, administer medications, and manage life‑support equipment.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement care plans.
• Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with clinical governance standards.
• Participate in handovers, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Registered General Nurse with post‑registration experience relevant to acute intensive care.
• Demonstrated depth and breadth of nursing practice in a high‑dependency setting.
• Ability to work effectively within a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
