Staff Software Engineer – Frontend, Retail Experience

About the role

Toast is building powerful tools for modern retailers and needs a senior engineer to shape the frontend experience. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Retail Experience squad you will design and deliver intuitive, high‑performance user interfaces that feel purpose‑built for retail businesses.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and implement modern, high‑quality frontend experiences using React and TypeScript.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Platform teams to deliver cohesive improvements across Toast’s ecosystem.
• Mentor teammates, influence technical decisions, and help foster a strong engineering culture.
• Continuously evolve UI systems and design patterns to enable rapid, scalable feature development.
• Explore emerging technologies and propose innovations that elevate the Retail experience.

Required profile

• 8‑10+ years of experience building modern web applications with a strong frontend focus.
• Proven ability to ship user‑facing features in fast‑moving, cross‑functional teams.
• Passion for clean, maintainable code and a balance of quality and speed.
• Comfortable working in a hybrid environment with two days per week on‑site.
