About the role
The Strategic Sourcing Specialist will be responsible for sourcing medicines that are in shortage within the Irish market and for managing product requirements for both retail and hospital customers. This role supports a key strategic pillar by ensuring continuity of supply for critical medicines and by delivering rapid, compliant sourcing solutions in a fast‑changing environment.
Key responsibilities
- Lead sourcing of medicines within the Irish market, identifying compliant and viable supply routes and alternatives.
- Monitor signals from HPRA, wholesalers, hospitals and internal teams to proactively identify emerging shortages.
- Develop and maintain relationships with manufacturers, hospitals and specialist suppliers.
- Manage bespoke hospital requests end‑to‑end and support urgent escalations.
- Provide clear shortage intelligence and updates to key account managers, customer service and commercial teams.
- Maintain a focused network of shortage suppliers and act quickly to execute flexible sourcing plans.
- Manage stock levels, monitor stock‑at‑risk items and work with finance and commercial teams on reinvestment quantities.
- Drive rapid sourcing timelines, assess margin versus transport costs and reputational impact.
- Maintain KPI reporting on shortage sourcing, hospital fulfilment, turnaround times and supplier performance.
Required profile
- Strong knowledge of the Irish pharmaceutical market and HPRA regulations.
- Experience in procurement, supply chain or sourcing within a healthcare environment.
- Ability to build and sustain relationships with manufacturers, hospitals and internal stakeholders.
- Proactive, results‑driven mindset with excellent stakeholder communication.
