Assistant Manager

About the role

Ensure the store operates efficiently and effectively while providing customers with top‑level service and fresh food in a clean, safe environment. Deliver key store targets such as sales and profitability through strong people and operations management.

Key responsibilities

• Live Centra brand values – Proud, Energetic, Imaginative, Community‑Based.
• Set, monitor and achieve sales, gross profit, net margin, waste and other KPI targets with the team.
• Implement planograms correctly and maintain the appropriate product range.
• Merchandise and present the store to the highest standard.
• Lead by example, encourage teamwork and foster a positive workplace atmosphere.
• Promote clear communication between employees and management in a safe, respectful, inclusive environment.
• Support the Store Manager in team development, training and smooth store operations.
• Manage employee performance with regular feedback, recognition and encouragement.
• Handle customer queries efficiently, professionally and in line with store policy.
• Understand and achieve margin targets across all departments.
• Engage with new initiatives and embrace new ways of working.

Required profile

• 2 years experience in a relevant retail position (desirable).
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
• Experience balancing cash/tills.
• Excellent communication and delegation skills.
• Highly driven with a strong work ethic.
• Understanding of KPI and target achievement.
• Commercial awareness and brand awareness.
• Passion for grocery retail and ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
