Assistant Manager

About the role

Assist the Store Manager in ensuring efficient store operations, delivering excellent customer service and maintaining a clean, safe environment. Drive sales and profitability through effective people and operations management.

Key responsibilities

• Set, monitor and achieve sales targets, gross profit margin, net margin, waste and other KPIs.
• Implement planograms and ensure the correct product range is displayed.
• Merchandise and present the store to the highest standard.
• Lead by example, foster teamwork and maintain a positive workplace atmosphere.
• Support the Store Manager in training and developing the team.
• Manage employee performance with regular feedback and recognition.
• Handle customer queries professionally and in line with store policy.

Required profile

• At least 2 years of relevant retail experience.
• Strong communication and delegation skills.
• Highly driven with a strong work ethic.
• Understanding of KPIs, margins and commercial targets.
• Passion for grocery retail and ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.

Required skills

• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
• Experience balancing cash tills.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Good delegation abilities.
