Assistant Professor – Mechanical Engineering (Sustainable Energy Systems)

About the role

The School of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering at DCU is seeking an Assistant Professor to lead and develop undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Sustainable Energy Systems and core mechanical engineering subjects.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver teaching modules at both undergraduate and master’s level covering sustainable energy system design, thermodynamic analysis, and life‑cycle analysis.
• Conduct independent and collaborative research in mechanical and sustainability engineering, secure external funding and publish in high‑impact journals.
• Supervise laboratory sessions, capstone projects, and mentor students.
• Contribute to an innovative curriculum project integrating industry engagement, challenge‑based learning, digital tools and hybrid delivery.
• Collaborate with the Teaching Convenor, Research Convenor, Associate Deans and industry partners.

Required profile

• PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated teaching experience at university level.
• Established research track record with publications and ability to obtain external funding.
• Ability to work across interdisciplinary teams and engage with industry stakeholders.
