Assistant Staff Officer – Bookings & Validation (Grade IV)

About the role

The Assistant Staff Officer (Grade IV) in Bookings & Validation ensures the efficient scheduling of theatre lists and the processing of patient bookings within a public hospital environment. You will work closely with the Booking and Validation Manager, supervisors and key stakeholders to deliver a high‑quality, safe and caring service for all patients.

Key responsibilities

• Schedule and organise theatre lists, ensuring optimal use of operating resources.
• Process patient bookings and validations for both public and private patients.
• Manage day‑to‑day waiting lists and related administrative activities.
• Collaborate with the Booking & Validation team and other departments to maintain timely and equitable patient access.
• Apply the SSWHG IDPP protocol for waiting‑list management.

Required profile

• Meets the Department of Health & Children educational criteria for Grade IV posts.
• Knowledge of public and private patient processing in an Irish acute hospital.
• Experience in patient scheduling and dealing with patients, staff and the public.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organisational, negotiation and influencing abilities.
• Excellent numerical, analytical and typing skills, with a solution‑focused mindset.
• High capacity for responsibility, initiative and administrative workload.
