Clinical Nurse Specialist – Child & Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS)

About the role

The Health Service Executive (HSE) South West is recruiting a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) team in Cork. This specialist position focuses on providing liaison support between CAMHS and the Emergency Department, ensuring seamless care for young people presenting with mental health concerns.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver specialist mental health nursing care to children and adolescents in the emergency setting.
• Coordinate assessments, referrals and follow‑up pathways between CAMHS and other health services.
• Provide clinical advice and support to multidisciplinary teams within the ED.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of service protocols and quality improvement initiatives.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure compliance with HSE policies.

Required profile

• Registered General Nurse with specialist registration or qualification in mental health nursing.
• Experience working with children, adolescents, or families in a mental health context.
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong communication skills and a commitment to delivering high‑quality patient‑centred care.

Required skills

• Clinical assessment and risk management in mental health.
• Knowledge of CAMHS pathways and emergency department processes.
• Proficiency in using HSE clinical documentation systems.
