Clinical Nurse Specialist – Youth Drug & Alcohol Service

About the role

The Health Service Executive (HSE) is recruiting two permanent, whole‑time Clinical Nurse Specialists to join the Youth Drug and Alcohol (YoDA) Service in Tallaght, Dublin. The role focuses on delivering specialist mental health and addiction care to young people across the Dublin and Midlands region.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert clinical nursing care to adolescents with substance misuse and co‑occurring mental health issues.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams in assessment, treatment planning, and delivery of evidence‑based interventions.
• Develop and implement care pathways, ensuring compliance with HSE policies and national guidelines.
• Offer clinical supervision and mentorship to junior nursing staff and allied health professionals.
• Participate in service development, quality improvement, and research initiatives.

Required profile

• Registered General Nurse (RGN) with a current practice certificate.
• Specialist qualification or experience in mental health nursing.
• Demonstrated experience working with children, adolescents, or young adults in addiction services.
• Ability to work across multiple sites within the Dublin and Midlands health region.

Required skills

• Clinical assessment and risk management in mental health and substance misuse.
• Care planning and delivery of therapeutic interventions for youth.
• Leadership and team coordination within multidisciplinary settings.
