Consultant Clinical Scientist – Equipment & Dosimetry

About the role

The Department of Clinical Oncology in Inverness is seeking a Consultant Clinical Scientist to lead the Equipment and Dosimetry section. This permanent, full‑time position supports specialist cancer services across the Highlands & Islands, working with state‑of‑the‑art radiotherapy and imaging equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Equipment and Dosimetry team, managing scientists and technologists.
• Provide routine equipment QA, calibration, and dosimetric services for two Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators and a Siemens Somatom Confidence RT Pro CT scanner.
• Support the wider physics team by covering additional duties as needed.
• Participate in project work and develop specialised areas of interest.
• Assist with the rollout of the RayCare Oncology Management System.

Required profile

• Qualified Clinical Scientist (Band 8B) with experience in radiotherapy physics.
• Ability to lead a small technical team and work collaboratively across departments.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and willingness to engage in research and development projects.

Required skills

• Varian TrueBeam Linear Accelerator operation and QA.
• Siemens Somatom Confidence RT Pro CT scanner expertise.
• RayStation Treatment Planning System proficiency.
• AlignRT surface‑guided radiotherapy experience.
• Radcalc EPID transit dosimetry knowledge.
• Familiarity with RayCare Oncology Management System.
