Executive Dean of the College of Science & Engineering

About the role

The University of Galway seeks an Executive Dean to provide visionary leadership for its College of Science & Engineering. This senior academic position will shape research, teaching and innovation across five schools and multiple interdisciplinary institutes.

Key responsibilities

• Set and execute the strategic direction of the College, aligning with the university’s research pillars.
• Oversee a faculty of over 850 staff (including 54.5% international) and more than 5,600 students.
• Foster interdisciplinary research collaborations, including data science, health discovery, marine sustainability and high‑end computing.
• Lead external partnerships, research agreements, licences, patents and innovation activities.
• Represent the College within university governance and to regional, national and international stakeholders.

Required profile

• Established professor with a distinguished record of research and teaching.
• Proven senior academic leadership experience, preferably at a research‑intensive institution.
• Demonstrated ability to attract international collaborations and secure research funding.
• Strong understanding of the regional strengths in health technologies, marine and environmental science, data and cybersecurity.
