Executive Director – AI Institute

About the role

The University College Dublin (UCD) Artificial Intelligence Institute is seeking an Executive Director to lead the establishment of a world‑class, multidisciplinary AI hub. This temporary senior position will shape the institute’s strategy, services and external funding streams.

Key responsibilities

• Design and launch the AI Institute, creating a full suite of professional services.
• Secure external revenue and partnerships to support growth.
• Build and lead a Design Studio team that provides tools, training and consultancy to researchers across disciplines.
• Integrate AI solutions—from established applications to bespoke developments—into university research projects.
• Oversee administrative and operational functions in line with senior university standards.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in research, innovation or academic administration.
• Track record of obtaining external funding and managing large‑scale projects.
• Strong understanding of multidisciplinary research environments.
• Excellent strategic planning and stakeholder engagement abilities.
