External Communications Manager (12-month FTC)

About the role

Primark is seeking an External Communications Manager on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract to lead and coordinate integrated communications for strategic and corporate initiatives. The role will work across markets, supporting senior leaders and ensuring consistent brand messaging worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and execution of integrated communications plans for major business announcements, campaigns, store openings and key milestones.
• Act as the primary contact for markets lacking in‑market communications support, advising senior leaders and liaising with the central Corporate Affairs team.
• Create and manage high‑quality media assets such as press releases, statements, website and LinkedIn content, and support spokesperson training.
• Build and maintain relationships with media outlets and external partners to enhance brand visibility and secure impactful partnerships.
• Oversee agency partners, monitor reputational risk and provide proactive reporting across media, stakeholder and digital channels.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in external communications, preferably within fast‑paced retail, FMCG or agency environments.
• Strong media‑relations expertise with the ability to advise and draft responses under pressure.
• Proven track record of designing and delivering effective communications plans for key business initiatives.
• Excellent project‑management skills, capable of handling multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Analytical thinking and sound judgement, able to simplify complex issues and manage stakeholder expectations.
• Effective communicator and collaborative team player who can perform under pressure.
