General Practitioner – Portumna/Woodford, Co. Galway

About the role

The Health Service Executive (HSE) West and North West is recruiting a qualified General Practitioner to join the primary care team serving the Portumna and Woodford communities in County Galway. This permanent, whole‑time position is open to both HSE and non‑HSE applicants and offers the opportunity to provide comprehensive medical care in a rural setting.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver primary medical consultations, diagnosis, and treatment to a diverse patient population.
• Prescribe medication and manage chronic disease programmes.
• Refer patients to specialist services and coordinate follow‑up care.
• Participate in on‑call rotas and out‑of‑hours emergency coverage.
• Maintain accurate patient records in accordance with HSE standards.
• Contribute to community health initiatives and preventive care programmes.

Required profile

• Medical degree and full registration with the Irish Medical Council.
• Experience in general practice or primary care medicine.
• Willingness to work in a rural environment and serve the local community.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
