Group HR Generalist (12‑Month Fixed‑Term)

About the role

Portwest is seeking a Group HR Generalist on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract to support the People Operations Manager and Head of HR in delivering the global HR function. The role will help implement the HR strategy aligned with the 5‑Year Business Plan and ensure consistent HR practices across all locations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide guidance on HR policies, local labour legislation and disciplinary/grievance procedures.
• Maintain confidentiality for all sensitive HR matters.
• Recommend and implement HR policy updates to meet new legislation and best practice.
• Revise and create global employee handbooks.
• Manage HR KPIs, reporting and benefit enrolments worldwide.
• Maintain Bamboo HR records in line with GDPR and deliver Tier 1 user support.
• Support global relocations, visa applications and compliance with local labour laws.
• Assist with employee engagement, sustainability, internal communications and other HR initiatives.
• Audit key HR areas with line managers, such as holiday balances and performance reviews.
• Lead onboarding and off‑boarding processes globally, ensuring legal compliance.
• Conduct quantitative and qualitative research to enhance Portwest’s employer brand.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of HR policies, disciplinary and grievance handling.
• Ability to interpret and apply local labour legislation across multiple regions.
• Commitment to confidentiality and data protection (GDPR).
• Proactive attitude toward policy improvement and employee experience.
• Experience tracking HR KPIs and reporting.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Bamboo HR (or similar HRIS) systems.
• Understanding of GDPR compliance.
• Familiarity with global employment legislation (Europe, MENA, USA, ANZ, ROW).
