Head of Retail

About the role

J Grennan & Sons, a family‑owned agri‑business based in Rath, Co. Offaly, is looking for a Head of Retail to lead its multi‑site retail division. Reporting directly to the Owner and Board of Directors, you will be responsible for the commercial and operational performance of seven retail locations, driving growth, profitability and customer‑service excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Full accountability for sales, profitability and operational performance across all retail stores.
• Lead, manage and develop retail teams at each location.
• Drive sales growth, margin improvement and overall commercial results.
• Ensure best‑in‑class customer service across branches and online channels.
• Oversee purchasing, stock control, inventory management and stock turn.
• Manage supplier relationships and work with United Hardware buying group.
• Maintain pricing discipline, margin control and cost management.
• Develop and implement consistent standards for merchandising, presentation and customer experience.
• Lead promotional campaigns, seasonal trading initiatives and category development programmes.
• Oversee warehouse, dispatch and online retail operations to ensure efficiency.
• Drive improvements in retail systems, reporting, technology and processes.
• Develop management capability, succession planning and leadership depth.
• Ensure compliance with health & safety, operational procedures and company policies.

Required profile

• Proven experience in senior retail leadership within a multi‑site environment.
• Commercially driven with a track record of delivering growth and profitability.
• Strong strategic and operational leadership skills.
• Ability to lead, motivate and develop large retail teams.
• Excellent understanding of retail operations, purchasing and supplier management.
