HL7 Integration Specialist – Epic Systems

About the role

Optum is seeking an HL7 Integration Specialist to join its growing Epic application team in Ireland. In this role you will act as a bridge between end‑users and technical teams, designing, building and maintaining health‑data integration components that support Epic EHR and related platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and document procedures and standards for Epic applications and integrations.
• Serve as a player‑coach, delivering hands‑on technical work while providing team leadership and day‑to‑day support.
• Act as the primary escalation point for complex integration, interface and operational issues.
• Design, build, test and maintain HL7, FHIR, API and file‑based integrations across Epic EHR, ERP platforms, HIEs, cloud and SaaS vendors.
• Translate business and user requirements into clear technical designs and integration specifications.
• Lead Epic EMR implementations, including interface development, data conversion, upgrades and post‑go‑live support.
• Provide technical guidance, coaching and mentorship to integration team members.

Required profile

• Experience with interface engines, health‑data interoperability and integration projects.
• Proven ability to work in a hybrid environment, balancing on‑site collaboration with remote work.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and the capacity to act as an escalation point for complex issues.
