Instructor/Supervisor for Day Service – Adults with Intellectual Disability

About the role

The successful candidate will help develop and run a day service for adults with intellectual disabilities in Athenry, County Galway. The role includes delivering educational, social, vocational, recreational and personal development programmes, as well as providing family support and community‑based one‑to‑one assistance.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a day‑service provision for adults with intellectual disability.
• Design and deliver educational, social, vocational and recreational programmes.
• Provide family support, coordinate social groups and organise evening activities.
• Offer one‑to‑one community support and act as a key worker for service users.
• Support personal care needs, including meals and hygiene, for individuals with autism and complex needs.
• Establish links with community groups, micro‑enterprises and other partners.

Required profile

• Level 7 qualification relevant to the health sector.
• Minimum 1 year experience working in intellectual disability services.
• Experience in day‑service settings and programme design is advantageous.
• Ability to build community links and understand the needs of persons with intellectual disability.
• Full clean manual Irish driver’s licence.
• Fluency in verbal and written English.

What we offer

• Annual leave of 22 days.
• Salary range €36,291 – €52,406 per annum (Department of Health Supervisor/Instructor scale).
• Full‑time, pensionable position with a nine‑month probation period.
• Flexible working hours (78 hours fortnightly, Monday‑Friday with occasional weekend/evening work).
