Lieutenant (Firefighter) – Public Safety Service

About the role

The City of Shannon’s Public Safety Service is seeking motivated Lieutenant candidates to join its dynamic fire department. This part‑time position supports emergency response, team supervision, and community safety initiatives in a vibrant community located 20 minutes from Quebec City.

Key responsibilities

• Assume command of emergency situations in the absence of the responsible officer.
• Supervise daily station activities, including equipment, vehicle, and facility inspections and maintenance.
• Develop, propose, and help implement training and exercise plans for the crew.
• Respond to fire, medical, and other emergency calls, executing all operational procedures.
• Conduct fire‑prevention activities and related inspections.
• Perform administrative duties as required by the supervising officer.

Required profile

• Hold or be willing to complete the “Officier 1” training within four years of hire.
• Minimum four years of firefighting experience or an equivalent mix of training and experience.
• Valid first‑responder certification (levels 1‑3) and a class 4A driver’s licence.
• Experience with general administrative tasks.
• Flexible availability for day, evening, and weekend shifts.
• Residency in Shannon or within 12 km of the fire station (77, chemin de Gosford).
• No criminal record related to the position.
