Materials Assistant – 21‑Month Fixed‑Term (Hospital Warehouse)

About the role

UPMC Whitfield Hospital is seeking a Materials Assistant to support its busy Materials Warehouse on a 21‑month fixed‑term contract. You will ensure timely fulfilment of material requisitions, receive and store incoming supplies, and maintain accurate inventory records.

Key responsibilities

• Locate, verify, label, and deliver requested materials according to requisitions and SOPs.
• Receive goods from vendors, verify counts, and record transactions into the warehouse system.
• Perform weekly cycle counts and assist with monthly/annual physical inventories, resolving discrepancies.
• Support continuous improvement and lean initiatives within the warehouse.
• Liaise with the Materials Manager, Finance, and external vendors on delivery, quality, and invoice queries.
• Maintain housekeeping, conduct equipment inspections, and enforce security/access rules.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a warehouse environment, preferably in a hospital setting.
• Strong verbal and written communication, organisational and documentation skills.
• Ability to perform basic math, think critically, and solve problems with minimal supervision.
• Full clean driving licence is essential.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
• Experience with warehouse inventory systems; SAP knowledge is a distinct advantage.
