Pharmacist Advanced Specialist – Infectious Disease/HIV

About the role

This permanent position is for an Advanced Specialist Pharmacist focusing on Infectious Disease and HIV at Galway University Hospitals. The role involves delivering high‑quality clinical pharmacy services, supporting infection prevention and control, and leading improvement projects within a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert clinical pharmacy services for patients with infectious diseases, particularly HIV.
• Lead and develop infection prevention and control practices for vulnerable patients.
• Manage and prioritize caseloads, ensuring timely and effective medication therapy.
• Oversee medicine‑related improvement projects that enhance service delivery.
• Operate and optimise electronic patient information and prescribing systems.
• Analyse clinical and commercial journal material to inform practice.
• Ensure compliance with health‑and‑safety legislation, drug storage, and handling protocols.
• Mentor and train pharmacy staff and multidisciplinary team members.

Required profile

• Post‑qualification experience in infectious disease/HIV pharmacy.
• Strong knowledge of clinical pharmacy service provision and infection control.
• Proven leadership and team‑management abilities.
• Excellent organisational, resource‑management and health‑economics understanding.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and research.
