Pharmacist Advanced Specialist – Infectious Disease/HIV

About the role

This permanent position is for an Advanced Specialist Pharmacist focusing on Infectious Disease and HIV at Galway University Hospitals. You will lead clinical pharmacy services, ensure infection control, and drive service improvements within a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert clinical pharmacy services for infectious disease and HIV patients.
• Implement and oversee infection prevention and control measures for vulnerable patients.
• Prioritise and manage caseloads, resources and health‑economics considerations.
• Lead medicine‑related improvement projects to enhance service delivery.
• Operate and optimise electronic patient information and prescribing systems.
• Analyse clinical and commercial journal material on medicines.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, health & safety, and drug handling protocols.
• Foster teamwork, mentor staff and contribute to multidisciplinary collaboration.

Required profile

• Post‑qualification experience in infectious disease/HIV pharmacy.
• Strong clinical and professional knowledge of pharmacy service provision.
• Proven leadership, team‑management and organisational skills.
• Experience delivering improvement projects and using electronic prescribing systems.
• Ability to critically analyse scientific literature and make evidence‑based decisions.
• Commitment to continuous professional development, teaching and research.
