Philanthropy, Major Donor & Legacy Manager

About the role

The Irish Cancer Society is seeking a dynamic Philanthropy, Major Donor & Legacy Manager to lead its philanthropic strategy and deepen relationships with major donors, grant‑making bodies and legacy supporters. This hybrid role combines strategic planning, donor stewardship, and legacy fundraising to secure long‑term income for cancer research and support services.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Head of Fundraising to develop and refine the overall philanthropic strategy.
• Lead stewardship of major donor relationships, including individuals, trusts, foundations and international philanthropic organisations.
• Research, assess and build a pipeline of mid‑level and major donors, working with other fundraising teams to identify opportunities.
• Coordinate grant applications, including proposal writing, pitching, presenting and negotiating terms.
• Develop and implement legacy and in‑memory fundraising projects, overseeing research, marketing, creative development and supporter retention.
• Ensure timely acknowledgement of legacy communications and continuously improve the supporter journey.
• Partner with senior fundraising, marketing and retail leaders to enhance donor engagement.

Required profile

• Proven ability to build lasting relationships with high‑net‑worth individuals and institutional donors.
• Excellent communication and strategic thinking skills.
• Strong motivation to raise funds for a charitable cause.
• Experience in managing major gifts, grant applications and legacy fundraising.
