About the role
This two‑year Pre‑Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician programme starts in September 2026 at Lynebank Hospital, Dunfermline. You will rotate across primary‑care pharmacy, GP practice pharmacy teams and community pharmacies, gaining hands‑on experience while studying for the Diploma in Pharmacy Services.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with dispensing, medication reviews and patient counselling under supervision.
- Support clinical pharmacy teams in acute and community settings.
- Maintain accurate medication records and follow safe handling procedures.
- Build a portfolio of work‑based evidence to meet GPhC registration requirements.
- Participate in blended learning sessions and vocational training.
Required profile
- National 5 (or equivalent) grades A‑C in Biology, Chemistry, English, Mathematics and one additional subject (Route A), or an approved Pharmacy Services SQA course at SCQF Level 7 (Route B).
- IELTS score of 7 if English is not your first language.
- Eligibility for a Modern Apprenticeship as defined by Skills Development Scotland.
- For internal NHS staff, approval for a secondment from the line manager.

What we offer
- Fixed‑term training post with a salary of 70% of Band 4 in year 1 and 75% in year 2 (aligned to the Real Living Wage, approx. £12.60/hour).
- Paid study and a nationally recognised Diploma in Pharmacy Services (SCQF Level 7 & 8).
- Eligibility to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council upon successful completion.
- Exposure to a variety of pharmacy settings across NHS Fife.
