QA Lead - Payment Platform Modernisation
fiserv · Nenagh
Job description
About the role
Fiserv is modernising a high-volume global payment processing platform, moving from a monolithic, batch-driven architecture to an event-driven microservices platform on AWS (Confluent Cloud, Aurora PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, Java/Kotlin). As QA Lead you own the quality approach for a workstream or project, focusing on end-to-end integration across new services, legacy systems and external platforms. You will define what needs to be tested, build the frameworks to prove it, and work across several scrum teams.
Key responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end test strategy for your workstream, covering multiple services, domains and systems.
- Test across system boundaries, including integration with legacy systems and external platforms such as card schemes and partner systems.
- Drive parity validation, proving new flows match legacy outcomes and defining what "equivalent" means.
- Define and manage cross-system test scenarios and edge cases beyond a single scrum team.
- Build shared test infrastructure: frameworks, utilities, event assertion tools and data comparison tooling.
- Create and curate test data that exercises the full flow across system boundaries.
- Coach developers on integration testing and ensure teams understand the upstream and downstream impact of their changes.
- Contribute to CI/CD quality gates so automated integration tests give fast feedback without slowing deployments.
- Identify integration risks early, at handoff points between systems.
- Work with the Quality Architect on programme-level standards.
Required profile
- Experience owning quality across system or service boundaries, not just within one team.
- Strong technical skills, comfortable with code, and able to test event-driven microservices at contract, integration and system level.
- Experience testing event-driven or message-based systems (Kafka, async processing, eventual consistency, schema validation).
- Experience with migration or parity validation and building comparison tooling.
- Understanding of contract testing (Pact or similar) and SQL to validate data correctness.
- Ability to influence across teams without direct authority; coaching and setting standards.
Required skills
- Java or Kotlin
- Test frameworks such as JUnit and TestContainers
- Contract testing (Pact)
- SQL
- Nice to have: AWS, Kubernetes, GitLab CI, and familiarity with payments or high-volume transactions
