Rehabilitation Instructor – Sight Loss Specialist

About the role

Vision Ireland’s National Training Centre in Dublin is hiring a Rehabilitation Instructor to deliver specialist assessment, training and support for working‑age adults with sight loss. The role aims to enhance independence, facilitate access to employment or education and improve overall quality of life.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct functional assessments to determine the impact of vision loss on daily living and work.
• Develop and deliver personalised rehabilitation programmes covering independent living, mobility, and workplace readiness.
• Teach strategies to maximise residual vision and use compensatory techniques for reading, writing and communication.
• Introduce and train learners on assistive technologies such as screen readers, magnification tools, Braille, electronic travel aids and GPS applications.
• Provide orientation and mobility support for safe independent travel.
• Advise on workplace adjustments, interview preparation and transition to education or training.
• Offer emotional support and empowerment coaching, liaising with families, carers and employers.
• Maintain detailed records, ensure compliance with Vision Ireland policies, data protection, safeguarding and accreditation requirements.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, external agencies and community organisations to promote inclusion.

Required profile

• Experience working with adults with visual impairments.
• Ability to conduct assessments and design individualised rehabilitation plans.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
