Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our automation team in Sligo. You will lead the design and implementation of cutting‑edge automated equipment for global manufacturing clients, working from concept through to commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Develop innovative concepts from customer requirements within a multidisciplinary design team.
• Create 3D models of mechatronic equipment, including mechanisms, transfer systems, servo systems, robotics, pneumatics, electrical components and machine guarding.
• Participate hands‑on during build and debug phases to verify performance specifications.
• Manage large‑scale projects, coordinating cross‑functional teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Guide machine‑build technicians to ensure designs are realised and customer goals are met.
• Design and implement process improvements for existing automation equipment.
• Prepare detailed tooling drawings, pneumatic schematics, safety risk assessments and FMEAs.
• Liaise with suppliers for component procurement and with customers on specifications and deliverables.
• Produce documentation that complies with EU standards and meet project delivery deadlines.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronic or related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in machine design and automation projects, including design sign‑off, installation and commissioning.
• Proven ability to solve complex problems and deliver solutions on time.
• Self‑starter with strong attention to detail and ownership of project milestones.
• Current driving licence and willingness to travel as required.

• SolidWorks (or equivalent 3D CAD software).
