Senior Staff Engineer – Microcontroller Sub‑System Design (Cork)

About the role

The Microcontroller Sub‑System IP team at Qualcomm enables embedded processing solutions across IoT, mobile, automotive, XR and compute products. We are looking for a Senior Staff Engineer to lead architecture, RTL development and post‑silicon bring‑up for complex digital subsystems.

Key responsibilities

• Drive micro‑architecture and make design trade‑offs for simple to highly complex digital blocks.
• Lead RTL development using best practices, handling multi‑clock, high‑frequency, low‑power and low‑latency requirements.
• Own root‑cause analysis and resolution of design issues during development and post‑silicon bring‑up.
• Produce comprehensive design documentation and lead architecture reviews.
• Optimize area, power and performance while balancing product constraints.
• Collaborate with DFT, implementation, verification, emulation and firmware teams and mentor junior engineers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Science, Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of ASIC design experience with ownership of complex subsystems or SoC deliverables.
• Proven experience in multi‑power‑domain and multi‑clock‑domain designs.
• Strong understanding of processor/microcontroller system design and ISA concepts (ARM THUMB, RISC‑V).

Required skills

• ASIC design and verification.
• RTL development (Verilog/VHDL).
• Scripting/automation with Python or Perl.
• Industry‑standard digital design tools.
• Knowledge of ARM THUMB and RISC‑V instruction set architectures.
