Senior System Engineer – Virtualization (Remote, Ireland)

About the role

We are seeking a Senior System Engineer with a focus on virtualization to join a globally distributed engineering team. The role is fully remote and supports high‑availability digital products used by millions worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Design, deploy, administer and continuously optimise enterprise‑grade VMware (ESXi, vCenter) and Microsoft Hyper‑V platforms.
• Manage Hyper‑Converged Infrastructure (vSAN) and traditional SAN‑based environments, ensuring high availability, performance and scalability.
• Oversee lifecycle activities such as upgrades, patching, migrations and hybrid/cloud integration.
• Monitor system performance, conduct capacity planning and apply reliability‑engineering practices.
• Collaborate with SRE, DevOps, networking and support teams to resolve production incidents and perform root‑cause analysis.
• Maintain storage, backup and disaster‑recovery solutions aligned with best practices.
• Develop automation scripts and tools to reduce manual effort.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation and improve operational procedures.

Required profile

• Strong hands‑on expertise with VMware virtualization technologies at enterprise scale.
• Proven experience with VMware vSAN deployment, administration and lifecycle management.
• Solid experience with Microsoft Hyper‑V and System Center Virtual Machine Manager.
• Deep understanding of virtual networking concepts such as vSwitches, Distributed Switches, VLANs and NIC teaming.
• Practical experience with SAN storage technologies (iSCSI, Fibre Channel, FCoE).
• Proficiency in automation and scripting (PowerShell, PowerCLI, Python, Bash).
