Software Development Engineer, AWS DMS

About the role

As a Software Development Engineer (SDE2) on the AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) team, you will work on the core C/C++ replication engine that powers heterogeneous database migrations for thousands of customers. Your contributions will directly improve migration reliability, security compliance, and the overall customer experience.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and ship fixes and new features for PostgreSQL, Oracle, and SQL Server endpoints in the C/C++ replication engine.
• Diagnose and resolve complex production issues such as crashes, memory corruption, CDC failures, and data validation errors using core dump analysis and memory profilers.
• Develop and expand automated test coverage on the Scalable Test Platform, creating combinatorial testing scenarios.
• Deliver security fixes within SLA and support vulnerability remediation and secure supply‑chain builds.
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, release management, and on‑call rotation.
• Collaborate with Database Engineers to reproduce and fix customer‑reported issues.
• Leverage AI‑powered engineering tools to accelerate defect detection and resolution.

Required profile

• Mid‑level software engineer (SDE2) with strong problem‑solving skills.
• Experience working on large‑scale, production‑grade systems.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a cross‑functional team.
• Willingness to participate in on‑call rotations and handle production incidents.

Required skills

• Proficiency in C/C++ development.
• Hands‑on experience with PostgreSQL, Oracle, and SQL Server.
• Debugging and memory‑profiling tools such as AddressSanitizer and Valgrind.
• Automated testing frameworks and large‑scale test platforms.
• Understanding of security best practices and vulnerability remediation.
• Familiarity with AWS services and cloud‑based database migration concepts.
