Software Development Engineer II – Aurora Control Plane Developer Experience

About the role

Amazon Aurora is looking for a Software Development Engineer II to join the Control Plane team. You will help build and improve hyper‑scale database services that power hundreds of thousands of AWS customers worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and own critical system software components for Aurora’s distributed database platform.
• Architect highly scalable, fault‑tolerant services that meet strict availability, reliability, and performance guarantees.
• Write production‑ready code, conduct code reviews, and mentor junior engineers.
• Collaborate across Compute, Storage, Database, and IoT teams to integrate new features.
• Drive technical decisions and communicate solutions to internal stakeholders and customers.

Required profile

• Proven track record of shipping complex software products at scale.
• Strong communication and leadership abilities.
• Passion for learning new technologies and solving hard technical challenges.
• Customer‑focused mindset with an ability to balance trade‑offs.

Required skills

• Experience with AWS services (e.g., S3, EC2).
• Knowledge of distributed systems design.
• Familiarity with relational databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL.
• Hands‑on experience with Amazon Aurora or similar cloud database platforms.
