Staff Software Engineer – Host & Secure Compute Software

About the role

Qualcomm Cloud Edge in Cork is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development of Linux‑based system software for next‑generation datacenter and secure compute platforms. You will own complex host‑side subsystems, drive architectural decisions and provide technical leadership across software, hardware and platform teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and optimise Linux user‑space and kernel‑adjacent drivers and libraries in modern C++.
• Lead development of host software stacks for high‑performance AI inference and secure compute workloads.
• Architect and develop unit, integration and system‑level tests for CI environments.
• Integrate host software with Trusted Execution Environments, secure PCIe device assignment and SR‑IOV.
• Debug complex boot flows, PCIe link behaviour and performance bottlenecks using advanced tracing tools.
• Provide technical leadership, drive design reviews and mentor senior engineers across mixed hardware/software teams.

Required profile

• 6+ years of experience in system or platform software development.
• Proven ownership of complex subsystems across multiple releases.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
• Ability to set technical direction and influence architecture.

Required skills

• Extensive Linux system software development in modern C/C++.
• Deep knowledge of Linux user‑space, kernel concepts, drivers and system bring‑up.
• Experience with multi‑threading, synchronization and API design.
• Understanding of SoC architecture, PCIe 3.0+, SR‑IOV and virtualization (KVM, Docker).
• Proficiency with git, Python for tooling and automation.
• Familiarity with unit‑testing frameworks such as gtest.
