Systems Engineer – Linux & OpenShift

About the role

SMBC Group is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to join its Tralee office in a hybrid capacity. The role focuses on designing, developing, automating, testing and maintaining Linux servers and OpenShift container platforms both on‑premises and in the cloud.

Key responsibilities

• Design, install and configure operating system software and related components.
• Manage Red Hat OpenShift and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) clusters to support scalable applications.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts for routine tasks and deployments.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues on Unix/Linux and AIX production environments.
• Collaborate with architecture, engineering and security teams to implement new products and upgrade existing infrastructure.
• Evaluate new hardware and software solutions and propose creative technical approaches.

Required profile

• Strong passion for enterprise systems and cloud automation.
• Proven experience with Linux (Red Hat) and container platforms such as OpenShift and AKS.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of an integrator team.
• Willingness to participate in occasional weekend on‑call rotations.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills for complex technical challenges.
