Theatre Staff Nurse – Operating Theatre (General, Orthopaedic, Neuro)

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Theatre Staff Nurse to join our operating theatre team in West Dublin. The successful candidate will act as a scrub nurse, supporting surgeons across general, orthopaedic and neuro procedures while ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and clinical care.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare the theatre, instruments and equipment for each surgical case.
• Act as scrub nurse, assisting surgeons and maintaining a sterile environment throughout operations.
• Provide pre‑, intra‑ and post‑operative patient care, offering reassurance and information to patients and families.
• Administer medications safely, keep controlled‑drug records and follow all safety protocols.
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, anaesthetists and theatre staff, supervising junior personnel when required.
• Maintain accurate electronic patient documentation and take charge of the unit in the lead nurse’s absence.
• Report incidents, participate in audits and contribute to continuous service improvement.

Required profile

• Registered General Nurse (NMBI) with a current practising licence.
• Minimum two years acute hospital experience.
• At least one year experience working in an operating theatre as a scrub nurse.
