Timber Harvest Machine Operator – Contract in Ireland

About the role

A leading forestry and arboriculture company in Ireland is looking for an experienced Timber Harvest Machine Operator to join its production team on a contract basis. You will operate purpose‑built harvesters or excavator conversions to fell and process trees safely and efficiently, supporting thinning and clear‑fell projects.

Key responsibilities

• Operate Ponsse, John Deere, Komatsu or Tigercat harvesters for tree felling and processing.
• Wear appropriate PPE and clearly mark risk zones on the machine.
• Maintain the harvesting head and saw chain according to manufacturer guidelines, keeping detailed records.
• Ensure proper chain lubrication, depth regulation, and safe parking of the head.
• Coordinate daily work programmes, emergency contacts, and provide precise location details for any incident.
• Plan work to use brash and tops for site travel and secure the head for transport on slopes.
• Perform daily inspections of cutting equipment, replace worn chains, and follow strict safety procedures during maintenance.

Required profile

• Proven experience in forestry harvesting, especially thinning and clear‑fell operations.
• Hands‑on knowledge of operating and maintaining Ponsse, John Deere, Komatsu or Tigercat units.
• Strong understanding of safety regulations and emergency protocols in a forest environment.
• Ability to keep accurate maintenance records and follow manufacturer manuals.
