Claims Director – Professional Lines (Medical & Non-Medical)

About the role

We are seeking a senior Claims Director to lead high‑exposure professional lines claims across Allied Medical, Medical Professionals, Errors & Omissions, and Management Liability. The role can be based in Richmond, VA, the broader tri‑state area, or remotely within the United States, reporting to the Claims Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Directly handle high‑exposure professional lines claims, including Allied Medical, Medical Professionals, Errors & Omissions, and Management Liability on primary and excess policies.
• Develop and document claim strategies, negotiate settlements, and control expenses while ensuring timely reserving and appropriate legal payments.
• Analyze policy language, provide coverage and liability analysis, and draft reservation of rights letters.
• Maintain communication with leadership, underwriting partners, and cross‑functional teams; identify trends and procedural improvements.
• Mentor new adjusters, support peer development, and contribute to organization‑wide initiatives.

Required profile

• 5+ years progressive claims handling or litigation management experience, preferably in excess and surplus lines.
• Experience with professional lines claims (Allied Medical, Errors & Omissions, Management Liability) and multi‑jurisdictional litigation.
• Bachelor’s degree; JD or adjuster license desirable.
• Proven ability to manage complex coverage issues and exposures over $1M.
