About the role
The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland is appointing a Co‑National Specialty Director to lead Higher Specialist Training in Neonatology. This three‑year tenure involves steering the postgraduate training programme, shaping curriculum, assessments and providing guidance to trainees within the Faculty of Paediatrics.
Key responsibilities
- Attend and contribute to Specialty Training Committee meetings (minimum three minuted meetings per year).
- Report to the Specialty Training Committee through the NSD Committee chaired by the Director of Education & Training.
- Update the neonatology curriculum, logbook/ePortfolio and collaborate with the Training and Examinations function.
- Develop and organise study days and specialist training courses.
- Implement formative knowledge‑based assessments in line with RCPI policies.
- Provide advice, career guidance and support to trainees on training, examinations and related queries.
- Participate in RCPI ceremonies, other faculty meetings and relevant governance activities.
Required profile
- Qualified paediatrician with substantial experience in neonatology.
- Familiarity with postgraduate medical education and specialist training frameworks.
- Ability to work collaboratively with national committees and adhere to RCPI governance policies.
- Strong understanding of trainee support, curriculum development and assessment processes.
