About the role

The Health Service Executive (HSE) is seeking a qualified Consultant in Emergency Medicine to join the team at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe. This permanent, whole‑time position offers a 37‑hour work week within the HSE West and North West health region.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality emergency medical care to patients presenting to the department.
• Lead and supervise junior medical staff, nurses, and allied health professionals.
• Participate in on‑call rotas and ensure timely clinical decision‑making.
• Contribute to departmental audit, research, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated patient pathways.

Required profile

• Medical degree with full registration on the Irish Medical Council register.
• Specialist training and accreditation in Emergency Medicine.
• Eligibility to work in Ireland and hold a valid HSE appointment.
• Commitment to the values and standards of the HSE.
