Head of Data Protection and AI Compliance

About the role

This senior leadership position is responsible for shaping and owning the data privacy and AI compliance agenda for a leading insurance organisation in Ireland. Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, you will have direct exposure to the Board and Executive team while managing a team of four professionals.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead the data protection and AI compliance strategy across Ireland.
• Set, maintain and continuously improve policies aligned with regulatory and group standards.
• Provide the Board and Executive team with clear reporting, insight and risk oversight.
• Embed a strong culture of compliance and accountability throughout the organisation.
• Oversee incident response, data subject request processes and ensure compliant handling of sensitive data and AI‑related activities.
• Collaborate with risk, legal and business teams to manage issues, controls and governance.
• Deliver training, communication and support for project delivery.
• Manage budget and resources to meet objectives.

Required profile

• 10+ years’ experience in data protection, legal or a comparable environment.
• Current experience within the insurance sector.
• Qualified solicitor or equivalent data‑protection experience.
• Compliance Institute qualification or relevant data‑protection certification.
• Professional Certificate in Insurance (desirable).
• Strong experience in AI regulation and emerging frameworks.
• Proven ability to advise senior management and Board‑level forums.
• Eligibility for a CF1 controlled function role.
