Instructor – School Leavers (Day Service) – Galway

About the role

Ability West is seeking enthusiastic Instructors to deliver day‑service programmes for school leavers in Galway City and County. You will support individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism to develop practical, social and independent living skills.

Key responsibilities

• Provide instruction in arts, crafts, woodwork, cookery, horticulture and independent living activities.
• Deliver courses that combine specific skill development with social, personal care and community integration components.
• Work collaboratively within a flexible, multidisciplinary team, ensuring duties interrelate and overlap as needed.
• Build respectful, equality‑based relationships with participants to promote autonomy and independence.

Required profile

• Experience supporting individuals who display challenging behaviours.
• Experience working with people on the autism spectrum.
• Knowledge of a range of communication needs and supports.
• Familiarity with New Directions interim Standards for Day services.
• Full, current driving licence.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong problem‑solving, interpersonal and communication abilities.
