About the role
The Irish Institute for Chinese Studies (IICS) at University College Dublin invites applications for a Lecturer / Assistant Professor position in Chinese Studies. The role supports the Institute’s mission to enhance Ireland‑China academic, cultural and commercial links through teaching, research and community outreach.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Chinese language, culture, and related subjects.
- Develop new curricula and teaching materials aligned with IICS strategic goals.
- Conduct and publish research that strengthens Irish‑Chinese academic collaborations.
- Supervise student projects, theses, and dissertations.
- Engage with external partners, including government, business and cultural organisations, to promote joint initiatives.
Required profile
- Doctorate (or equivalent) in Chinese Studies, East Asian Studies, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated record of scholarly research and publications.
- Experience teaching at university level, preferably in an English‑speaking environment.
- Ability to contribute to the Institute’s outreach and partnership activities.
Required skills
- Strong academic writing and presentation abilities.
- Proficiency in Chinese language (Mandarin) and English.
