Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Liebherr is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its container crane engineering team. You will be responsible for turning concepts into high‑performance, large‑scale solutions that move global trade, while collaborating with cross‑functional experts and seeing your designs implemented on site.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop engineering solutions for Liebherr container crane products and components.
• Create high‑quality 3D models, detailed production drawings, and bills of materials for fabrication and assembly.
• Collaborate with engineering, production, and supply‑chain teams to keep designs current, compliant, and optimised for procurement.
• Work closely with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure components meet quality and performance standards.
• Provide engineering support for advanced production equipment and ensure industry‑leading standards.
• Support site activities, including installation, commissioning, and real‑world performance assessment.
• Maintain ownership of design data, ensuring models, drawings, and concepts are well‑controlled and accessible.
• Develop clear, user‑focused technical documentation and procedures.
• Partner with sister companies to harmonise technical standards and promote knowledge exchange.
• Mentor junior colleagues, contribute to customer handovers, and undertake project‑related travel.

Required profile

• Degree‑level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• At least 3 years of design engineering experience, preferably in steel fabrication or heavy engineering.
• Strong proficiency in 3D CAD and related engineering tools.
• Proven ability to deliver high‑quality results in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
• Proactive mindset with strong attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships across teams and with external partners.
• Highly organised, dependable, and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
