Senior Engineer

About the role

The Senior Engineer will lead the efficient management, direction and development of the assigned directorate or department within Cork County Council. Working in line with the Council’s Corporate Plan, the role focuses on delivering high‑value public services and supporting strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and develop engineering teams to meet policy and service delivery goals.
• Collaborate with senior management and elected members to implement local policies.
• Lead change‑management initiatives and ensure value‑for‑money outcomes.
• Contribute to strategic projects, including climate‑change adaptation and infrastructure development.
• Oversee policy implementation, service delivery and performance monitoring.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level engineering experience, preferably in the public sector.
• Strong leadership, innovation and agility.
• Commitment to customer‑focused service delivery.
• Ability to work with senior management, elected officials and community stakeholders.
