Staff Nurse – Operating Department

About the role

Children's Health Ireland is seeking a dedicated Staff Nurse to join the Operating Department in Dublin South. This permanent, whole‑time position provides an opportunity to work in a dynamic surgical environment, supporting a multidisciplinary team while delivering high‑quality patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to patients before, during and after surgical procedures.
• Assist the surgical team with equipment preparation, positioning, and intra‑operative monitoring.
• Maintain strict infection‑control standards and ensure a safe operating theatre environment.
• Document patient observations, interventions, and outcomes accurately in clinical records.
• Participate in hand‑overs, multidisciplinary briefings, and post‑operative debriefs.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse qualified in Ireland and on the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland register.
• Experience in an operating theatre or acute care setting is desirable.
• Ability to work flexible shift patterns, including evenings and weekends.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to teamwork.

Required skills

• Clinical nursing competencies, including patient assessment and medication administration.
• Knowledge of operating theatre procedures, sterile techniques, and equipment handling.
• Proficiency in infection‑control practices and patient safety protocols.
