Traffic Engineer (Transportation Engineer III)

About the role

The State Highway Administration (SHA) District 4 is seeking a Traffic Engineer (Transportation Engineer III) to support the preparation and delivery of highway construction projects and to address traffic‑related concerns from the public.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Team Leader and Assistant District Engineer of Traffic in preparing project advertisements for highway construction.
• Respond to citizen inquiries regarding signs, pavement markings, speed limits, sidewalks, crosswalks, streetlights, traffic signals, and other operational issues.
• Coordinate with SHA support divisions, engineering design consultants, state and county agencies, and community representatives throughout project development.
• Contribute to project development for multiple funding programs, including Major Projects (Funds 70‑72), Safety and Resurfacing (Fund 77), Intersection Capacity Improvement (Fund 87), Crash Prevention (Fund 30), Urban Reconstruction (Fund 84), Retrofit Sidewalk (Fund 79), Bicycle Retrofit (Fund 88), and others.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
• At least two years of professional engineering experience.
• Minimum one year of experience specifically in traffic engineering.
