Trainee Manager – Retail (Full‑Time)

About the role

SPAR Portarlington is seeking a motivated Trainee Manager to join its retail team on a full‑time basis. You will support the Store Manager in leading daily operations, ensuring excellent customer service, and driving sales performance.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise the retail sales team daily, delegating tasks and monitoring performance.
• Maintain high‑quality, consistent customer service and handle complaints effectively.
• Coordinate store merchandising, housekeeping, and in‑store promotions.
• Ensure cash handling procedures and weekly shelf‑edge label updates are followed.
• Assist with recruitment, induction, and training of sales assistants.
• Support back‑office management and react to local market trends.
• Communicate sales performance, company policies, and targets to the team.
• Deputise for the Store Manager when required and undertake additional duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years retail experience with supervisory responsibilities.
• Operational knowledge of a retail environment.
• Understanding of consumer needs, health & safety, HACCP, and consumer legislation.
• Strong interpersonal skills, self‑motivated and ambitious.
• Commitment to continuous improvement and high standards.
