Ward Secretary – Clerical Officer (Grade III)

About the role

The Ward Secretary provides essential administrative support to the clinical team on an inpatient ward. Working within the In‑Patient Services Team, the role ensures smooth day‑to‑day operations and accurate handling of patient information.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and update patient records using the hospital’s administration system.
• Prepare and organise ward documentation, schedules and correspondence.
• Assist the clinical staff with routine clerical tasks, ensuring timely information flow.
• Handle enquiries from patients, families and internal departments.
• Support the ward’s compliance with health and safety and data protection standards.

Required profile

• Leaving Certificate or equivalent education.
• Strong administrative and organisational abilities.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Competent written and spoken English.
• Desirable: a relevant third‑level qualification.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office applications.
• Familiarity with the Patient Administration System (iPims) or similar healthcare software.
